Yesterday I spied these fantastic glasses from Nest Interiors in the latest issue of Lucky Magazine.

I realized that the reason I like them so much that I already have a pretty similar set in my shop. They are from the era of Mad Men and are the rack makes a perfect display (and easy access) for a party.

I expanded my booth this weekend at the Brooklyn Flea. While I would have loved to cover all the tables in this fabulous Marimekko fabric, it was a little out of my budget. To cover the extra tables, I picked up these painter's drop cloths from Home Depot.

They've got a great natural canvas color and they're hemmed. I chose the 6 x 9 ft for my tables, but you can get them in different sizes and the best part is at $10 a piece, you can easily replace them if they get stained, etc.

WHAT TO DO WITH LEFTOVER PUMPKINS...

My home state of Delaware often faces some serious teasing for it's small size. (Think Wayne's World). The fact that you can drive through it in an hour really doesn't really help things.

But besides chickens, Delaware is known for a very fun event, The World Championship of Punkin' Chunkin'. For those of you not familiar, punkin' chunkin' is the art of launching a pumpkin through a corn field for distance. Competitors develop some highly engineered machines to increase speed, distance, height and accuracy when aiming for objects.

Half the fun of going is for the people watching. Both competitors and spectators take their outfits very seriously...

Happy Halloween! So happy I am back from all my crazy traveling to celebrate my favorite holiday...

My love for Halloween definitely comes from my Mom. Growing up, costumes and decorations were always home-made from items we found in the basement. (Anyone looking for a last minute costume idea, a gypsy is easy to put together from vintage clothing and big costume jewelry.) This weekend, I ventured back to PA to enjoy a haunted house at her antique store, Pack Rats Place. Here are a few of my favorite pics...

CLEANING UP...

Working at the Flea hasn't left me with a lot of time to clean my apartment. (Think laundry everywhere, storage containers piled high and a sink load of dishes, ugh!) Yesterday, I decided to tackle the mess. I found these great tips on Real Simple for tackling cleaning problems with ordinary products (think fewer chemicals.) My fave, cleaning silver with baking soda. This might save me some serious scrubbing time.

Also liked this one, have got to remember to do this before my next party...

Definitely doing this one. Much better than picking up the trash from the bottom of the bin.

I've got some exciting news (and part of the reason I've been a little quiet this week). This Sat, I'm going to be setting up a brand new booth at the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene.

The Fort Greene location has tons of vintage finds, delicious food (passion fruit glazed donuts, um yes!) and some serious celeb spotting. Writers from Lucky Magazine just wrote about this flea market (and other fabulous markets around the country), check out them out here.

Last week I introduced my new fall look for O&B and this week, I can't wait to make it even better. If you're around, come out and say hi.

FOUND IT! CAMPAIGN NIGHTSTAND

Ever think something is meant to be? I picked up this amazing campaign style nightstand at a thrift store in Dennis, MA for $10! I literally squealed and ran over to it. (Mine looks just like this, but with a little more character).

My love affair with campaign style furniture started when I spotted this dresser in an issue of Lonny. I wrote about it back in August 2010 and have been dreaming about finding reasonably priced one ever since...

My little nightstand needs a little work, but hopefully soon, it will look like this...

FALL VINTAGE PICKS

For the next few days, I'm up in Cape Cod closing down our house for the season. With cooler temperatures during the day and a yard full of leaves to rake (and jump in), I'm quickly getting into my favorite season of the year. This definitely carries over to my vintage hunting, where more than a few fall-inspired few items have caught my eye.

While I'm here, I plan to check out some of the fantastic thrift stores and estate sales on the Cape. Here are a few must-have vintage items on my list for Fall.

Leather: Cases, luggage, boxes you name it. There's something about Fall that makes me what to fill the shop with worn-in leather. (This is a vintage collar box by the way, how cool)

Brass: Candle stick holders and small figurines have been popular for awhile, but I'm looking for brass compotes to stash jewelry, small paperweights in cool shapes (like insects, sheep and duck heads) and vintage lighters (something my grandfather would have owned). If I find a cool brass lamp, it's mine!

Plaid Blankets: Vintage wools, tartans, plaids, Pendleton and Woolrich in traditional patterns and colors (navy, black, red, etc).

Picnic baskets and leather camp chairs: Anything to take for a last minute tailgate or Fall picnic in the park.

Milk Glass compotes, cake stands, etc. The milky white color is a perfect compliment to bright pumpkins and squash.

During a recent class, I was asked to research my favorite interior designer. My go-to was David Hicks. When his classic fabric showed up on a camel back sofa on cover of Domino Magazine, I was immediately hooked.

Hick's use of bold colors, geometric fabrics (many of which he designed himself), upholstered walls andpainted furniture – made his rooms appear modern, despite many of them having been designed during the swinging sixties.

PHOENIX APT DESIGN

I'm back from Phoenix, AZ where I helped a friend move into her new apartment over the weekend.
As in most rental apts, the apt was a series of off-whites and tans from floor to ceiling. My friend had also ordered a brown couch and oversized chair for her new living room. To avoid being swept up in beige overload, we needed to bring in textures and patterns fast!

Originally thinking browns, purples and blues, the color palette in this pillow struck our eye.

The neutrals seemed to work with the space, without feeling too masculine. Later in the day we saw this room in the Crate & Barrel catalog which had a similar feel.

Once we had the color scheme down it was only a matter of designing around it. Not wanting to spend a lot of money, we stocked up at Crate & Barrel, Target and Ikea on low cost items with great design.

Today, I'm off to Phoenix to help a friend move into her new apartment. While she couldn't be more excited about abandoning cold winters of Boston for the sunny skies of Arizona, I'm excited to dip into the patterned, southwest trend that's hitting the streets of NYC as we speak. Definitely going to look for some vintage jewelery while I'm there...

STRIPED STRAWS

I've written about striped straws before. They're colorful, fun and perfect for summer parties. In the past, I used them to help style O&B online and recently I've been using them at the Brooklyn Flea.

FASHION WEEK

THE TERRIBLE DAY

I'd like to take a moment out of our crazy busy lives to reflect on something. Traveling to Brimfields last week, my friend Tara and I stayed at the home of blogger and superwoman, Deanna of Silly Goose Farm. Over freshly baked biscuits and homemade jam (so delish), she told us stories of the destruction in upstate New York from Hurricane Irene.

Driving around the area and in Hudson, NY we could see the amount of flooding and damage. Bridges were flooded, entire fields of corn filled three quarters of the way up with water.

One man at Brimfields told me a sad story of a friend who had lost 20 horses from his farm in the flood. They are still missing...

Not sure about your neck of the woods, but in NYC this news was barely covered. As a foodie, my heart goes out to the farmers who lost their late summer, early autumn crops. That's apples, corn, pumpkins and squash, the stuff that reminds me of Fall and comes down to the Farmer's Market in Union Square.

If you'd like to help, Deanna and her blogger friends, From Scratch Club, have set up two fundraisers to to help a family who lost everything in the flood and two organic farms who are realing from the storm. If anything, read their stories and learn more about the destruction from this terrible day.

FLEA TIME

Last Sunday marked another good day at the Brooklyn Flea. I was excited to showcase some of my most recent finds from Brimfields including this fantastic bar set and metal signs.

Also new were these Mad Men-esque Pilsner Glasses. In my opinion these need to make a comeback, it's so much cooler is it to drink from these instead of a pint glass, or bottle.

As was this cool cigarette case from the 30s. It has a secret drawer...

As I've been doing the Flea each week, I've met some fantastic sellers. My most recent neighbors were the wonderful couple Amy and Alen behind Birdhouse Jewelry. They've given me some fantastic pointers on how to set up my booth and don't complain about my Flea mix on repeat. How cute is this little dog from Amy's collection?

On Sunday, I ended up with a gorgeous gold curved bar necklace and it's already become one of my favs. Check out more of Amy's work here.

BACK TO BRIMFIELDS

I've been a bad blogger recently, but so much has been happening, it's hard to know where to start. To begin, last week I headed up to Brimfields with my friend Tara from The Prippy Handbook, to scour for vintage finds. Despite a rainy day and mud up to our ankles, there were definitely treasures to be had. Here are a few of my favorite pics from the day...

I am kind of tired of the animal antler trend, but these were everywhere at Brimfield's. Expect to start seeing them show up everywhere from your local design store to Anthropologie.

Also, everywhere were these cool industrial drafting tables. I mean huge, wooden and heavy. You could get some serious work done on these.

Definitely a buyer for everything at Brimfield's...

This past Sunday was a great day at the Brooklyn Flea! So many things happened, it's hard to know where to start. First, Jessica Biel (yes, that Jessica Biel) stopped by the booth and bought a beautiful set of crystal glasses. She was very sweet and chatted for a little while. Before she left, she also picked up a travel decanter set as a man-gift for J (as in JT?) I hope so! Her friend bought this great sign...

Then the producers from the new ABC talk show, The Chew (it's the one with Mario Batali and Clinton Kelly) came around and did some video taping at the booth. They were interested in this vintage egg crate and ended up purchasing it for the show. Stay tuned starting Sept 26, to see how they use it...

I talked to a number of amazing people at the flea and I always love hearing how someone is going to use an item from O&B. One customer bought these Sears oil cans to use as display in his Brooklyn-based pet food store. How cool!

Overall, it was a very successful, wonderful day at the Flea. Can't wait to go back again on August 28. If you're in town stop by and say hello!

A slightly worn leather bag is an accessory that never seems to go out of style. The other day, a woman walked in with the most amazing leather bag. She told me the name of the company, Will Leather Goods. I forgot to write it down and promptly forgot about it. How happy was I to stumble across the another cool bag by Will Leather Goods, while checking out one of my fav blogs, Convoy.

I hope the either the Hopper or McQueen will soon be finding their way from Eugene to NYC soon...

This weekend, I roamed around checking out some of the coolest little fabric stores in Park Slope, Carroll Gardens and Red Hook looking for some vintage fabric for a project. My favorite find of the day was from the adorable Brooklyn General Store, where they stock an ever-changing selection of vintage fabrics from the owner's private stash.

After many hours searching, I found some great fabric, but came up mostly empty handed on the vintage front. Yesterday's rainy day seemed like the perfect time to scour eBay and Etsy. Here are some of my favs...

GREAT SALES AND GOOD STORIES...

Great sales and good stories made up my first show at the Brooklyn Flea. Despite the forecasts for rain on Sunday, the weather held out and it was a beautiful, sunny day in Williamsburg.

We had traffic in the booth from the moment we started setting up. Many people stopped back again once they had scoured the flea. Compliments on the items and booth definitely made my day.

Bright fabrics and vintage photos from a local NYC photographer helped draw people in...

The set-ups in the front were ever changing as things sold and were replaced with other objects. We had one guy squeal with delight and run over this leather liquor travel set...

In the beginning we put out all the glassware and the tables looked full and overcrowded. Careful editing is always key and we ended up putting some of it away until later in the day.

As a suggestion from my friend Tara of The Prippy Handbook, team Octavia & Brown sported brand new uniforms for the show. We gave out the "uniform discount" to anyone wearing a striped shirt later in the day...

Over all the show was fantastic. Thanks to everyone who came out to check out the booth. Can't wait to try it all again on August, 21...

GOING MARIMEKKO BOLD

The last few days, I've been working on the set-ups for the show this weekend. Looking for some inspiration, I headed over to the Marimekko shop at Crate & Barrel, where I picked up this gorgeous, bold fabric for the tables.

While at Crate & Barrel I also spotted these fantastic lamps. The bright cord is a perfect accent. I already plotting to get two of these for my bedside tables.

This week, I'm in full prep mode for my first outdoor show on Sunday at the Williamsburg Flea. I've been playing around the set-ups this afternoon, trying to figure out what to bring and what to leave. While I'd love to bring everything, I don't want the booth to look too cluttered.

I'm thinking about color blocking everything...

This one still needs a little more work. I think I need to add more height...

There was a great article in Time Out New York last week about summer cocktails getting out of tiki bowls and into classic pitchers, carafes and cocktail shakers at bars around the city. I couldn't be more excited about this. There's something immensely satisifying about drinking a classic cocktail out of a perfectly portioned glass.

I'll be bringing glassware, 60's barware, lamps, signage and some larger furniture pieces not previously seen on the site. If anyone wants to stop by and say hello, I'll be there rain or shine from 10am- 5pm.

Imagine my delight when I spotted these fun horsehead bookends at West Elm. At $39, they're a steal.

This weekend I attended the 2nd annual Meatopia in Brooklyn. As the name indicates, it was a celebration of all things meat, from snout to tail. Where as Smorgasburg is a little slice of foodie heaven in Brooklyn, this was were foodies go to eat.

20 well-known chefs from around the country including Micheal White from Marea, Osteria Morini in NYC, Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo of Animal in LA, Adam Sappington from The Country Cat Dinnerhouse & Bar in Portland, OR and April Bloomfield from The Breslin in NYC among others, each partnered with a local farm to prepare a unique meat-inspired dish.

I tried everything from roasted sheep, pig and elk to more unusual chicken hearts and offal. A few of my favs included scrapple stuffed pig's head (see pic above), Grilled Chicken Hearts with Burnt Eggplant Puree, Roasted sheep with heirloom tomatoes, Crispy Pig’s Head Torchon with Green Beans and Horseradish and bacon ice cream. Despite the size, this event retained the feel of a fun, outdoor BBQ. The oppressive heat (which was in the upper 90s) did not seem to alter the fact that great things seem to happen when a group of chefs get together. As the night wore on I saw a lot of sampling at each others stations, laughter and wine being poured. Plus a few off-menu items including roasted goat brains and porchetta scrapings.

The NYC skyline became a beautiful backdrop as the sun went down...

BEACHES AND BIRTHDAYS

Somehow over the years, my birthday has extended from just one day to a "birthday week". I feel very grateful to have a wonderful group of friends and family to celebrate with. One of the last stops of my birthday last week was at the Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY. At the tip of the Long Island, this cool hotel has the laid back surfing feel of Southern California combined with the modern, chic of NYC.

The painted blue floors (my fav) and white washed walls in the main entrance feel fresh and inviting. I'd love to steal this color for my walls.

The inside bar is both rustic and modern with bright colors and high back chairs.

Outside the colorful striped chairs and rattan lights feel modern and beachy all at the same time.

Top all of this off with live music on Saturdays and Sundays and you have my favorite place in the Hamptons. Next stop... Surf Lodge's sister hotel across the water, Ruschmeyers.

Total count: 2 mice caught. The details: The smart mouse trap is the clear winner here. I set 4 traps before I went running on Friday night. By the time I was back, I already had one tiny mouse caught in the smart mouse trap. The trap was easy to release the mouse, clean and reset. I'm a fan. Now hopefully they won't come back...

Living in the West Village, surrounded by restaurants, stores and people is great. Unfortunately living above a diner has brought some uninvited "house guests" who dig in my trash and binge on my favorite box of crackers.

Smart Mouse Trap

This weekend, I've decided to declare war on my visitors. I have a hard time killing a spider, let alone a mouse, so I purchased some humane mouse traps off the Internet. These mouse houses trap the mice and allow me to catch and release them down by the Hudson (where hopefully they won't find their way back).

Mice Cube

I bought two different kinds to test out. The Smart Mouse Trap ($13.49 each) has trap doors and levers to catch, but not touch the mouse at all, while the Mice Cube's simple design and cheap price ($9.99 for 4) seems like it might work too. Both companies recommend using peanut butter and a cracker to lure the mice. Who knew that the mice and I have similar tastes?

THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE...

Most of the time you're busy, walking by it, over it, even on it, but sometimes there's just something on the ground that captures your eye. This weekend, I found two great street artists in NYC that made me smile.

Each weekend, Felix Morelo, a NYC street draws over a thousand chalk faces in a yellow brick road-like line around Union Square Park.

Each face, slightly different, reflects Morelo's style. He marks every 10 faces, so you can see his process.

I felt like a kid walking the zigging and zagging line around the park. At the end... Morelo (in white).

I checked in with Morelo a few times on Sunday. At last I left him, he had drawn over 600 faces that day and was still going strong.

The second artist, Joe Mangrum works exclusively with colorful chalk dust to create stunning original pieces of artwork in Washington Square Park.

Pouring colorful sand out of his hands, Joe adds color and highlights to his work. Seeing these huge creations in person is definitely worth it.

I admire these artists dedication to their temporary installations. Be sure to check them out (and donate).

STAYCATION- PART 2 FOODIE HEAVEN

I heart Brooklyn. It was my second home during my staycation weekend. Sat, I ventured over the bridge to Williamsburg to partake in the brand-spanking new outdoor food event, Smorgasburg.

Started by the folks behind Brooklyn Flea, there are over 50 vendors, small (I8NY, Porchetta) and large (Momofuku Milk Bar, Red Hook Lobster Pound) serving delicious organically grown and locally sourced food. I'm convinced I've died and found foodie heaven by the East River.

A finger-lickin' good sandwich by I8NY, roasted chicken with pickled green tomatoes and salsa verde.

A local fav, People's Pops were serving shaved ice from a huge ice block.

Frozen banana spiltz, yum!

Wouldn't be Brooklyn without a slew of bikes chained to the fence.

If you're in NYC (or planning to visit), get to this market soon! Once word gets out about this foodie haven, it won't be long before the lines start wrapping around the block.

STAYCATION- PART 1

This weekend instead of beating the heat and getting out of NYC, I embraced my city and did a little Staycation. On Sat, I headed over the bridge to Brooklyn, where I checked out two of my favorite design stores, A&G Merch and The Future Perfect. I love Charlie Harper. I was very excited when designer Todd Oldham collaborated with him to edit and design a stunning, oversized book that has been a fave on my coffee table for years.

So when I recently discovered that Todd Oldham had done a Charlie Harper collection with one of my favorite stores in NYC, Fishs Eddy, I could barely contain my excitement. The collection is bright and whimsical and will most certainly be showing up at my next summer soirée.

Molding Love

I recently visited a friend's new apartment and my jaw just about dropped to the floor. This girl had thought about all the details. One of deign ideas (that I hope to steal) is that she added some Chinese Chippendale style molding to all of her closet doors. Simple change, but instantly transformed the doors from ho hum to inspiring. Sort of something like this on doors.

Big Apple BBQ Block Party

This past weekend was one of my favorite events in NYC, the Big Apple BBQ Block Party. What's not to love about live music, craft beer and the most delicious BBQ brought in from around the country?

This year's food did not disappoint. My favorite was the pulled pork sandwich from Ed Mitchell. Vinegar based North Carolina BBQ and delicious coleslaw. Yum!

The music was fab too. Those Darlins from Nashville and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears kept the crowd going all day.

Every once in awhile a restaurant comes along where I can't decide if I love the design or the food more. Kin Shop in the West Village is such a place. Pale blue and green banquets feel fresh against the white washed brick.

Beautiful ikat panels create an interior that is soothing and inspiring.

The purple yams in this noodle dish are both colorful and delicious.

Don't be fooled by the duck laab salad, when they say it's hot, they mean it.

Turks & Caicos Adventure

I'm back! I know I've been saying this a lot recently, but last week I took an unexpected break from my little blog. While I didn't really mean to, but I was traveling a ton and think I actually needed a little break to come back refreshed and ready to write. So here I am friends, I promise to be better...

Last weekend, I headed down to the Turks & Caicos islands for some much needed R&R and to celebrate a friend's b'day.

To say that the beaches were beautiful is an understatement. The silky white sand beaches stretched for miles, while bright turquoise water provided the most amazing backdrop for pics.

Conch is plentiful on the island. Da Conch Shack, as the name indicates is crisp, white shack on the beach with sand floors that serves conch a variety of tasty ways: conch fritters (my fav) conch salad, conch soup, cubed conch, etc

After each hot, sunny day the clouds would roll in providing some relief from the heat and the most amazing sunsets.

Our hotel, the Villa Renaissance built during the construction boom, it's considered one of the oldest in Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales. (it's only 8 years old!)

If you have a chance, I highly recommend T&C!

I'm finally ready to reupholster a vintage wingback chair I've had since I moved from San Francisco. I bought it for steal at Antiques by the Bay, but removing the individual nailheads, painting and recovering it always seemed a little intimidating. Now that I have some free time, I'm ready.

Right now my living room is orange, pinks and browns with light gray walls but, I think I'm ready to migrate to fresh white walls, navy and pink/ yellow accents for summer.

Given the new color inspiration, here are some of the fabric options I'm considering. I'd love to hear what you think...

I've been obsessed with this geometric David Hicks fabric since it graced the cover of the first issue of Domino.

But at almost $100/ yd it's a little out of my price range.

STREET FAIR TIME

I love street festivals. There's something about being outside on a city street, eating grilled food and listening to music that signals summer for me.

For a few hours on Saturday, the clouds and rain disappeared and the Ye Olde Village Street Fair transformed my street into a huge block party.

SUMMER FABRICS

I'm getting ready to reupholster a vintage wing chair and asked my very stylish friend, Henriette about some of her favorite fabrics. Lucky for me (and you), she agreed to share some Scandinavian fabric finds, as well as some truly inspirational danish design sites. (Definitely worth checking these out!) The lil bee

I grew up around fabric. My mom had an atelier [workshop/ studio] filled from floor to ceiling with textiles from all over the world; here she would spend hours a day making quilts and other beautiful things to fill our home. It was so inspiring to peruse the endless drawers of her color blocked fabric bundles. Unfortunately I never quite picked up the knack for quilt making but I remain fascinated by prints and patterns to this day.

With the recent opening of the Marimekko shop inside Crate and Barrel in SOHO, I couldn’t be more excited! It feels like a piece of home right here in the Big Apple! I just love the freshness and simplicity of Scandinavian textile design, and being Danish myself I am often drawn to my fellow Vikings whenever I am on the hunt for new furniture or a fun new print or pattern. Right now, I have got my eyes on these bright pillows by Marimekko. They would look great thrown onto a black vintage leather couch or on a freshly made bed.

IKEA is also a great place to buy textiles, at amazing prices too. I think this yellow print would make a fun table cloth for summer.

Slightly more up market, but a million times more inspiring than a trip to IKEA is the Purl Soho Fabric store, where one can easily spend an entire afternoon pulling out fabrics. If you’re not exactly sure what fabric to pick I love their pre-made bundles that you can pick up for about $30.

I couldn’t resist this versatile blue and white printed rug from Sweden (It’s plastic!) How perfect would this be in a kitchen or kids room?

THRIFTING, CINNAMON ROLLS AND CAPE COD

First things first. Big apologies. I've been neglecting my blog a little recently. It's just that I've been on the road a lot. Last week I was in Cape Cod helping my Mom open our house for the summer rental season. It involved a lot of cleaning, gardening and raking leaves. We also took down a 25ft (dead) tree in the backyard.

*My mom took this pic of me. She was thrown off a bit by my new camera and didn't quite capture the entire leaf pile. Who knows what I was doing?

Luckily, with rainy skies halting some of the outside work, we were able to visit many of the fantastic community/ church thrift shops and estate sales on Cape Cod. You've definitely heard me talk about them here. I managed to pick up 22 sets of glassware, some great milk glass, brass candlestick holders and Mad Men-like martini sets. These will all be coming to Octavia & Brown as soon as I can get them photographed. I might also need to throw a fantastic retro party too!

While I was in Chatham, I did manage to sneak in a cinnamon roll (or two) from Marion's Pie Shop. They are the size of your hand, but so soft and doughy. Marion's also makes the most delicious chichen pot pies, but you have to get there early, because they sell out everyday...

Now that I'm back in NYC, I have a friend staying with me from San Francisco. She's a fellow foodie, we've been eating our way around NYC. More on that later this week...

This weekend, I was "jamming" on a new project for iVillage. My chef friend made up a recipe and I took a ton of shots with my new camera. Couldn't wait to share a few pics. (The step-by-step recipe will be coming soon to iVillage).

Friday night, oysters were on the list, as a reward for job well done. First stop, Goat Town. Chefs Joel Hough and Nicholas Morgenstern, who worked together at Cookshop, have reunited at this hip farm-to-table bistro with delicious wine and a tasty raw bar.

After finding seats (err... stalking people) at the bar, East and West coast oysters mingled, bitter danelion greens were sweetened up with balsamic strawberries and pork chops created a heavenly mix with spring onions, grapefruit, and parsnips.

Ambiance and decor are just as important to me as the food and this place certainly delivers with subway tile benches, a weathered copper bar, arched tin ceilings, and bread pan lighting. Perfectly urban and rustic all at the same time.

The raised garden beds in the back are ready for a mix of freshly grown herbs and veggies this summer, but I hope what I hear is true that they're getting ready to open seating outside...

EMERALD GREEN SPRING

I'm ready for spring, I've said it before and I'm hoping if I keep saying it, it will finally arrive. What's making it harder is that while spring flowers are blooming everywhere, the trees have not gotten their full set of leaves. I think that's why I'm craving the color green. Not just any green, but a deep rich emerald green.

It all started when I spotted these pants in an ad from Gucci....

Obviously I couldn't afford those, so I found a cheaper option at Zara.

But then I started seeing green everywhere...

I spotted this incredible sofa in the home of interior designer Bailey McCarthy in the latest issue of Rue Magazine.

TAKING IT TO THE FARM...

There's nothing like getting out of the craziness of the city, even if it's for just an evening. This weekend, armed with my new camera and a fellow foodie/chef, I hopped on metro north to visit Blue Hill at Stone Barns.

Easily accessible, just 45 minutes outside of the city, Blue Hill at Stone Barns is known as one of the best restaurants in the country. It's helmed by renowned executive chef/co-owner Dan Barber, Dan's brother David and David's wife Laureen. Foodies can expect an ever changing menu that takes the farm-to-table to a new level.

Before dinner, we walked around the huge greenhouses on the property and "sampled" the many rows of seasonal vegetables that would be used in that night's dinner.

Chickens, cows, pigs and sheep are all raised on the farm.

This huge sheep dog took his job very seriously, but eventually warmed up to us...

One of the more innovative farming techniques included mobile chicken coops that regularly relocate around the farm.

Once inside, the food to say the least was amazing. While I didn't capture everything (too busy eating), here were a few of my favorites....

The vegetables on the fence were beautifully displayed with a simplicity and goodness not often found off the farm.

This course included a trio of fresh carrot juice, radishes and turnips, whimsically displayed in a bed of soil. (Off to the right is a shot of scented geranium infused vodka).

The gardener in me delighted in the fresh pea shoots that were pruned table side. I've made my dinner companion promise that he'd help me recreate the lemon vinaigrette. I had to stop myself from licking it off the plate.

One of the best meat dishes was a compilation of pig parts (heart, snout and cheeks) served with ramps and broccoli rabe. The bottom of the plate was a mixture of shaved lardo and immature egg. Paired with a Roja this dish was INCREDIBLE!

After almost 12 dishes, we walked out feeling completely satisfied and happy, but not overly full. If you get the chance, definitely worth the trip. I know I'll be back again soon...

I'm back after a few very long, busy days in NYC. I've been knee deep taking photos for O&B, edits, taxes (ugh!) and working on some upcoming projects and so my blogging has suffered just a bit, but I promise to be better friends.

Yesterday, my apartment was filled with gorgeous flowers as I prepped for a photoshoot for iVillage. In my mind there's nothing better than a cluster of delicious smelling flowers on my desk.

BACK IN THE BAY

So you know when you have the perfect weekend planned out... dinners with friends, lazy afternoons chatting on the roof, runs in the park, vintage shopping, etc and then whamo something happens to derail the whole thing? Well that's definitely what happened with me with this past weekend in San Francisco...

I flew to SF on Thursday and had a great time exploring the city. I mean it was 75 degrees and sunny to start with (basically unheard of this time of year) and I got to experience Off The Grid, a weekly gathering of gourmet street trucks. Yum! I had the Chairman Boa pork buns (I would have shared a pic, but I ate them too quickly!)

On Friday my friend and I headed up to Pt. Reyes, CA to Hog Island Oyster Co and Nick's Cove. You've probably heard me talk about these places before, as they're two of my favorites in Northern California. It was a beautiful sunny drive up and when we got there the fact that it was still 70 degrees by the water was crazy! We bbq'd some oysters and clams and enjoyed a little sunshine.

At Nick's Cove, we headed out to the boathouse on the dock. It's a secret, but you can take drinks and food out there. In fact...

I passed the time watching this VW van try to get the boat out of the water. I wasn't sure it was going to make it...

Sat was filled with friends and a fantastic dinner at Local Mission Eatery... Spring greens topped the menu with braised quail and charred squid.Yum!

But Sunday, the wheels came off the cart so to speak. I had a 24-hour bug that knocked me down and out. So much so that I didn't make it Alameda Antiques by the Bay (my favorite vintage shopping). I was sad to miss out, but glad that I'm feeling back to normal today. There's always next month...
